The rising costs of education are becoming a major concern for students and parents throughout the country. Most students need financial assistance in order to attend private schools or college after high school. If you are one such student, the best possible financial solution is to earn scholarships which will not require repayment. Here are six ways to earn these coveted scholarships:

Through Athletics

Good athletes typically achieve their status through a combination of natural ability and hard work. Both qualities could be useful in earning an athletic scholarship, if you are actively participating in athletics at your current school. If you have demonstrated a dedication to academics in addition to your athletic prowess, you can contact local schools about opportunities they may have for athletic scholarships. The school may send out scouts to assess your athletic potential and, if they are impressed, they may offer scholarship opportunities.

Need-Based

Many Endowments, organizations and colleges realize the only thing preventing some students from attending college is a lack of financial support. If you have a good school record but come from a financially disadvantaged background, you can apply for scholarships that are awarded based on the combination of need and potential. These scholarships rarely, if ever, require you to pay anything in return, even for applying to them.

Through Employment

Many students are forced to seek employment prior to attending college. There are many employers who are willing to award scholarships to excellent employees in hopes of improving and securing their services after graduation. A parent’s employer may also have available scholarships for the children of employees.

Community Service Work

community by volunteering within the community and providing excellent service. These types of scholarships promote goodwill in the community and set a precedent for community support of academics. If you’ve been involved in your community, especially in volunteer work, public projects, and education, you may qualify for a community citizenship scholarship.

Through Academics and SSAT Testing

Many parents try to impress on their children the importance of working hard in school. Getting good grades and putting the study hours in to score well on evaluation testing such as the SSAT test are important factors in earning academic scholarships. If you are taking the SSAT test, prep courses are one of the best tools for assessing your test readiness and identifying the areas you need to pay special attention to in your studies. If you’ve been successful in the classroom and perform well on the SSATs,  you will be eligible to apply for literally thousands of merit-based scholarships available to good students.

Investing Time

Many scholarships go unused on an annual basis due to their obscurity. An individual who is willing to spend the time to scour the internet and other resources for any and all available scholarships are likely to come across some they may actually qualify to receive. You may be surprised at what scholarships you may qualify for based solely on an instrument you play, an obscure skill you have, or your cultural background.

There are thousand of available scholarships for individuals who really want to attend college. To qualify for and stand a chance of earning these, you should be willing to use every means available to pursue and apply for all opportunities you find.
