Heading off to college is an exciting time, but it can also be intimidating. More to the point–how do you feed yourself? Stock your new kitchen with these 10 essentials for cooking.

1. Chopping Knife
One good cutting knife can do wonders for a new kitchen. A medium size chopping knife will let you slice and dice with ease. Be sure to have a few and have as much variety as possible. Realize that other roommates will tend to use your things, so having extras will make it easier on you.

2. Cutting Board
That chopping knife is going to need a cutting board so you can actually dice your veggies and slice meats. Get a small one to get started for easy storing. Take a look at the different varieties that are available, and pick the one that speaks to you.

3. Pot
A pot might be the most crucial piece of cooking equipment you can have. Get a medium sized pot to get started, and you can boil pasta, make soup or chili, and warm up canned goods.

4. Pan
Like a pot, a basic ban is pretty crucial for any cooking set up. A medium sized pan will allow you to make scrambled eggs and sear meats. It will also come in handy for a late night grilled cheese sandwich.

5. Colander
Pasta is a staple for most college students, and it is pretty difficult to make pasta without a colander. A colander will let you drain pasta and other wet foods, and you can even find a collapsible one for easy storage.

6. Baking Sheet
Like baking cookies? Then you’re going to need a baking sheet. Baking sheets are versatile and come in handy for items like toasting bread or roasting vegetables.

7. Baking Dish
A baking pan is a flexible tool for any kitchen, especially a small one that would fit in a confection oven. Use this for baking anything from chicken or ziti to a tray of brownies.

8. Dishes
Once the meal is ready, you have to serve it up! A few plates and cereal bowls will work. You can even get heat-resistant plastic to prevent breaking the dishes.

9. Flatware
Of course, nothing can be eaten without some utensils. Some forks, spoons and knives will do well here, and while you are starting out you can even get away with using metal eating spoons as cooking utensils as well.

10. Glasses
Finally, a few glasses will round you out so any meal is complete. A couple water glasses and some mugs for coffee can get you started right.

A basic kitchen is fairly easy to set up. With 10 fundamentals, you can stock up a kitchen that will make your mom proud! If you are moving into a new student apartment, then make certain you have each of these kitchen necessities.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to
my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I
    had to tell someone!
