Stress is not a fun thing to experience, and unfortunately, everyone experiences it, especially students. It’s incredibly easy to feel stressed out by bills, work, driving, school, and more, but it doesn’t have to control your life. There are ways that you can turn stress into a good thing, a thing that makes you stronger and wiser. It won’t be easy, but you can try your best to grow with stress instead of letting it hold you back.
Embrace Deadlines
One of the biggest stressors in peoples’ lives is meeting deadlines. Time restraints are nerve-racking, and you may worry about getting the task done in time the whole way up until it’s due. However, the alternative can often be worse. With a deadline, you are more motivated to get something done than if you didn’t have one. Without a deadline to hold you accountable, you’re free to dillydally and put off responsibilities as nothing pushes you to complete them.
Thankfully, you can learn to embrace deadlines before moving on to the more stressful ones. Some easy deadlines you can embrace in your life are:
- Waking up and getting out of bed
- Setting appointments
- Reading and studying
When you’ve learned to embrace deadlines like these, you’ll be much better off when you have a term paper or project deadline. Procrastination will be the last thing on your mind as you get to work taking care of everything before the deadline.
Learn To Accept Discomfort
If you want to turn stress into a good thing, you need to make sense of being tense and everything that comes with it. People learn to see stress through the lens of flight, fight, or freeze. We view stress as something to avoid, and these methods for moving past it are your only options.
Truthfully, a lot of stress isn’t something to run away from or fight—it’s a learning experience. Instead of running away or trying to minimize these forms of stress, take them to heart and grow with them. If one class stresses you out, learn why. If you feel unprepared or unknowledgeable about the subject, take it as motivation to study even harder and turn that subject into your forte.
Juggling Responsibilities
A major stressor in everyone’s life, especially for students, is juggling many responsibilities. As a student, you must find time to study, complete homework, go to class, have friends, work, participate in activities, and find time for family as well. The average person will have to compromise on parts of their life, like studying or having friends. This strategy can decrease stress, but you can end up worse off as a result. You should never overwhelm yourself, but sometimes, being excited to juggle responsibilities will help you learn important time management skills.
Using these methods to turn stress into a good thing helps you become a more well-rounded person who isn’t afraid of a challenge. Life likes to throw roadblocks and stress in your way, but with the right mindset and understanding of how stress can be a positive tool, it won’t slow you down. Instead, it will help you grow and persevere through life’s challenges.
