Choosing a career to pursue as a new college student can be difficult. There are thousands of different options. However, there may be a few very rewarding options you haven’t considered. Often times, students think they know what they want to do right away, or don’t venture out and experience different options. Below is a list of seven of the most rewarding careers every student should consider.

1. Teacher

It may seem like a cliché, but teachers make some of the biggest impacts on children’s lives. They give children knowledge, help build their self-esteem, and give them the framework to succeed in life. A teacher gets to see their students improve and see the changes they are making from working with them on a daily basis.

2. Author

One of the most rewarding activities a person can partake in is creation. Authors have the ability to create works to be enjoyed by others. It can also be an exciting career choice. If you enjoy writing and are creative, this could be the perfect option for you. While it isn’t mandatory, you would surely benefit by earning a Bachelor of Science in Professional and Liberal Studies before starting your career as an author. This program helps authors by providing research, organizational, and negotiations skills that are necessary for success in the industry. The program also teaches students how to use Microsoft Office, which is important knowledge for all authors to have. Completing courses in research-based writing are particularly important, as they allow authors to properly research their topics before beginning their writing and to write based on this research.

3. Physician

Healthcare-based careers can be some of the most rewarding careers, albeit there is a tremendous amount of education needed for most. If you are interested in a medical career, consider what you love most about people and caring for them, or what areas of science and medicine you find most fascinating. For example, a career as a high-risk obstetrician, in maternal fetal medicine, is meaningful in that you to take care of moms and babies before they are even born to help them have a good shot at a healthy life. According to Dr. Gilbert Webb, providing proper care for soon-to-be mothers and babies in utero can make a big difference in the health of both mom and baby, particularly in high-risk pregnancies.

4. Clergy Member

While it may not be the first thing you think of, being a member of the clergy such as a priest or rabbi can be a well-paying and very rewarding career. It allows you to interact with people and your community on a spiritual level. If you are very religious, this could be a good option.

5. Veterinarian

Many people love animals. The great thing about loving animals is you can apply this passion to a rewarding career by practicing veterinarian science. It allows you to work with animals and help make their lives better by giving them the care they need.

6. Video Game Designer

Video games have become a huge billion dollar entertainment industry that rivals that of movies and television. As such, video game designers are in demand. Video game designers get to work in a career that allows them to explore their creative side and have lots of fun at the same time.

7. Educational Counselor

Educational counseling is a career that combines both education and psychology, and it pays well. Better yet, it allows you to help children by addressing their behavior problems, resolving their conflicts and producing a better learning environment.

Overall, there are many lucrative careers. However, only certain careers may be a truly rewarding experience for you. Consider both your goals and passions when choosing the career that is right for you.
