After all the hard work you put into getting into the college of your choice, the last thing you want is to be kicked out. This is why it is important to understand what to avoid keeping this from becoming a reality for you. While there are more than five things that you need to avoid, these are the major ones.

Plagiarism

One of the worst things you can do in college is to cheat. It can get your kicked out quickly. You do not want to copy off of someone else’s work. For one, you will not get the education that you are paying for. Secondly, you will usually get caught. Even if you are writing a paper, be sure that you do not plagiarize the information or the wording. If you want to be sure that the wording does not hit any flags for plagiarism, there are plenty of sites online that you can use. This will only take a moment and can help to save you from issues in the future.

Criminal Charges

When you get into trouble legally, it reflects badly on the school. This is why they do not want to keep people in school that get into trouble. This is why it is best to keep your nose clean and stay within the parameters of the law. It may seem more fun to run off and be wild, but your education will suffer, which is something you cannot take back.

Bad Grades

If you are failing your classes, then chances are you are not receiving much of an education. This is why it is important to be sure that you show up for class and study. If you find that your grades are slipping, talk with someone to find out if there is a study group for the class. Another option is to look for a tutor. Often times you can find them right on campus from people who have already taken the class and passed with ease.

Disruptive Behavior

College is designed to be a place for learning and when you disrupt the learning environment, there will be consequences. This could be anything from disrupting a class or being disruptive when out and about on campus. One offense is often not enough to get you kicked out, it will go on your file and repeat offenses could cost you your education. While you should still have fun at school, be sure that you do it in a way that is respectful of those around you.

Drug and Alcohol Use

While many people think that experimentation is what college is intended for, the truth is that you need to be very careful about how you experiment. For one, using or even obtaining illegal drugs on school grounds can be immediate grounds for expulsion. Underage drinking is another thing that can cost you your education. Even if you are old enough to drink legally, you do not want to have it on the school grounds as this too can have you expelled.

The main thing to remember with this is to focus on your future. While friends and fun are important, they need to be done in moderation. Focus on school first and everything else second. Do everything you can to stay in the good graces of the school because if you get kicked out, there can be many severe consequences. For instance, you will still be charged for the semester, including student loans and you may find it difficult to get into another school.

The best thing you can do to keep from getting kicked out of school is to read the student handbook. This will outline acceptable and unacceptable behavior. On top of this it will outline the disciplinary actions, which are important to know.
